My Christmas in July blanket is finished! I am proud to present you the Gift box Granny Square Blanket! Each square is a gift box crocheted in Christmas-themed colors! Although I love the thought of this blanket being done for a birthday in a variety of fun colors. Bernat Super Value has 56 shade so there is so much you could do with one pattern!
Finished size of this blanket is a little over 30×30 inches but you could add more granny squares to make it much larger! Each granny square is 10×10.
This has been a 3 part post. All patterns are free! Let me break it down for you:

No gift is complete without a gift tag! Personal this piece with a Crochet Gift Tag and stitch on a name! You could even write “From Santa.”

Below you will find the rest of the details on how I joined the squares and made a border!
Joining the Gift Box Granny Squares:
Lay all the squares out in the order that you want them in. Now take a long strand of whit yarn and with your tapestry needle, work under the single crochet stitches (first vertical and then horizontal) and stitch the edges together!
You will use the mattress stitch. Basically this is just like lacing a shoe! Work back and forth going under the SC stitches.
Keep going, even when the 4 corners meet!
Here is a little video for all of you visual learners!
Now begin on the border! My border is very simple using the moss stitch (SC + chain 1) but you could make your border even bigger and more intricate. Maybe use the Candy Cane Border?! HERE is a Candy Cane Border Tutorial.
Moss Stitch Border:
With Size H Crochet Hook
Starting at any point on the edge of your blanket with white yarn, SC + chain 1, skip next stitch, SC + chain 1 in next, skip a stitch, SC + chain 1 and repeat around make a SC + chain 2 + SC in all 4 corners.
Change to Red yarn and make 2 more rounds using the Moss Stitch. SC + chain 1 in all the chain spaces from previous round.
Merry Christmas in July!
