I wanted to add a little personal detail to my Gift Box Granny Square Blanket and this Crochet Gift Tag was the perfect little finishing touch! Such a great way to actually gift this to that special someone. After you crochet the gift tag you can stitch the name on… I lucked out because my daughters name is only 3 letters long. I think tiny felt letters or a puffy paint marker would also work well if stitching on a name seems too difficult. Totally up to you!
Materials:
-Bernat Super Value Yarn in Berry Red and White (you only need a bit of each!). Shop colors at Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook (adjust hook size for larger or smaller tags)
– Tapestry Needle
Crochet Gift Tag Pattern:
Chain 6, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-8: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (5 SC)
Row 9: SC in first two, chain 1 and skip a stitch, SC in last two, chain 1, turn
Row 10: SC in first two, 2 SC in chain space, SC in last two,
Continue to SC along the edges making a SC + Chain 1 + SC in any spot you want to be “corner.” See photo below for where you want corner edges.
Join in red
SC in each stitch around making a SC = Chain 1 + SC in the spots you want the “corners.”
Fasten off and weave in ends
Stitch letters on with yarn or use felt letter stickers, puff paint, embroidery floss, or anything else you would like! I used my tapestry needle to stitch on Zoe’s name with a strand of yarn (yes the back looks messy) but the next step is to stitch your gift tag onto the middle gift box granny square of your blanket.
You can find the pattern for the Gift Box Granny Square HERE.
I promise a follow-up post on how to join the squares is coming very soon!
