Got a little bit of Bernat Blanket yarn sitting around your house?! With just a small amount of this soft, fluffy, and bulky yarn, you can make a cute little crochet plush owl! I almost didn’t post this because I’m not completely happy with how it turned out but Zoe loved the owl so much that I said to myself “well, if she loves it, I’m sure a few of you will love it too!” But I do have a second owl on my hook because you can never have enough crochet owl patterns at your fingertips! LOL!
Materials:
- Size J Crochet Hook
- Bernat Blanket Yarn. I used pixie pink for the body (from the brights line) and white for the eyes. Shop all colors at Yarnspirations.com
- Tapestry Needle
- 12mm black safety eyes. Purchase a big box HERE on Amazon for only $6! (aff)
- Poly-fil stuffing
- Triangle button for nose (purchased at JOANN’s) – optional
Finished size: Approx. 7 inches tall and 9 inches wide (including wing span)
Owl Body Pattern:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 4-14: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Fasten off leaving long tail to sew top together (but first sew face on). Sew in all other loose ends on inside.
Owl Eyes: (make 2)
Magic ring, chain 2 and make 12 DC in ring, pull tight and join to first DC. Leave long tail for sewing onto owl body.
Add safety eyes to center of magic ring.
Stitch eyes onto body of owl.
Sew on little button nose or use orange yarn to stitch on a triangle for the nose under the eyes
Owl Wings: (make 2)
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 4 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (6 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (8 SC)
Round 4: SC in each stitch around until you get to last stitch, make 3 SC in last stitch, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 5: SC in each stitch around, join, (10 SC)
Fasten off leaving long tail to sew wings onto side of owl body.
Stuff owl with poly-fil and stitch up the top with tapestry needle, working under the top of the SC stitches. Corners at the top will naturally stick up a little, forming ears
Little heart is pictured above but decided not to use it More on that when I post the second owl I’m working on!
I think this squishy soft owl would make a great gift for Valentine’s Day! Especially if you decide to use pink or red yarn. Be sure to use the hashtag #repeatcrafterme if you make this owl and post it on social media!
