The granny stitch is never going out of style! I had to jump on the bandwagon of with these Taylor Swift crochet dress colors.

If you haven’t seen pop culture news this past week, Taylor was spotted out wearing a Vrg Grl long-sleeved crochet granny stripe minidress.

If interested, you can read more about that HERE on PageSix.com

CH / SplashNews.com

I’ve seen several crocheters replicate the dress but I thought I would make a granny stitch stripe skirt for my daughter Zoe! Not only is she a Swiftie (a Taylor Swift fan) but it’s been exactly 4 years since I made her THESE patriotic granny stripe shorts. She’s really growing up fast!

From patriotic stripes to a pop star skirt!

I’m using Red Heart with Love Yarn in colors:
Blushing Peach
Blush (this is the purple)
Tan
Eggshell

Small issue, I didn’t realize that both Blushing Peach and Blush were both getting clearanced out on Yarnspirations.com. See the clearance shades HERE.
You can still shop the >>> Peach yarn HERE on Walmart.com <<<
>>> Blushing Peach is also available on discount in THIS The Crochet Crowd Curated Box <<<

For the Purple (Blush) colored yarn, I suggest using the color Lilac from the same Red Heart with Love line of yarn. It is currently available and a very similar shade!
>>> Get Red Heart with Love LILAC HERE <<<

I think these colors are really close to the dress she wore and I was trying to match it as best as possible.

Materials:
– Red Heart with Love in shades: Blushing Peach, Blush or Lilac (this is the purple), Tan Brown, and Eggshell White
Shop the colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com
-Size H Crochet Hook
-Tapestry Needle

This skirt is a girls size 10. You can adjust the size of the skirt by making the starting chain longer or shorter!
Your starting chain should be a multiple of three plus two chains for turning.

Granny Stripe Skirt Pattern:
starting with purple yarn

Chain 47

Row 1: Make 3 DC in 6th chain from hook, skip two chains, 3 DC in next, skip two chains, 3 DC in next, repeat down chain making only 1 DC in the last chain, chain 3, turn

Row 2: 3 DC in first space from previous row, 3 DC in next space, repeat until you get to end, 3 DC in last space (this is your leftover chain 5 space from the beginning chain), then make a DC on top of the chain 3, chain 3, turn

Join in peach yarn

Row 3: 3 DC in first chain space and the rest of the spaces in the row until you get to the end, make a DC in the chain 3 from the previous row, chain 3, turn

Row 4: 3 DC in first space, 3 DC in each of the spaces until end of row, make a DC on top of the chain 3 from previous row, chain 3, turn

Now that you get the hang of it, continue the color pattern 5 times:
2 rows Purple
4 rows Peach
1 row Brown
1 row White
1 row Brown
1 row White
1 row Brown

You should have 55 rows when finished.
The length of the panel will be about 30 inches.
Feel free to continue the panel to make it longer (the skirt wider).

Weave in all ends except leave a long strand of brown when you fasten off after the last row.

Fold the skirt in half and stitch the two edges together.

Now let’s make the waistband: on the top edge, join in peach yarn and make one single crochet in each of the DC stitches and one SC in the chain spaces along the edge. Add in 2 SC’s along the chain spaces if you want the waistband a bit bigger. I threw a couple extra SC in there and ended up with 58 SC along the top edge of this skirt.

Make 3 rounds of SC stitches along waistband edge
One round of DC stitches.
Two more rounds of SC stitches.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Drawstring:
With white yarn, Chain 150. Fasten off
Weave chain in and out of the DC stitches of waistband for a drawstring tie!

Please note that Zoe is wearing white shorts under the skirt. The spaces between the granny stitches are too wide to wear this without something underneath.

While I don’t personally have a pattern for a Granny Stripe Dress, you could take this color combo and sequence and make a Granny Stripe Blanket, Cardigan, and more! I will also leave the links to some of my Crochet friend designers who Granny Stripe Dress Patterns available.
