Happy Earth Day! Zoe and I have the whole world in our hands with this super soft and squishy Crochet Planet Earth Pillow! Only the front has the land/water design (which is not geographically correct) but it’s still a super cute way to help celebrate our earth!
I based this pattern off of my Crochet Planet Earth Cuddle Buddy that I made last year. This time I used Bernat Blanket Yarn and used a HDC stitch… in hindsight I would probably stick to a SC stitch because the globe turned out a little more oval than round. Thankfully crochet is so forgiving that I was able to manipulate it to make it more of a circle.
Materials:
– Bernat Blanket Brights Yarn in Busy Blue
– Bernat Baby Blanket in Lemon Lime
– Size K Crochet Hook
– Polyfil Fiber Stuffing
– Large Tapestry Needle

Don’t fasten off. Let’s talk for a minute
Your piece should look like the picture below. Kind of an octagon oval shape. To make it round, you will DC LOOSELY along the 4 diagonal edges and SC on the top, bottom, and right and left hand side edges. I went ahead and switched colors along my edge to match the green and blue land and water parts.
Now make a second piece in all blue for the back of the pillow!
Solid Planet Earth Piece:
Chain 10, HDC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down, chain 1, turn (8 HDC)
Row 2: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next 6, 2 HDC in last, chain 2, turn (10 HDC)
Row 3: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next 8, 2 HDC in last, chain 2, turn (12 HDC)
Row 4: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next 10, 2 HDC in last, chain 2, turn (14 HDC)
Row 5: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next 12, 2 HDC in last, chain 2, turn (16 HDC)
Row 6: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next 14, 2 HDC in last, chain 2, turn (18 HDC)
Row 7: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next 16, 2 HDC in last, chain 2, turn (20 HDC)
Row 8: 2 HDC in first, HDC in next 18, 2 HDC in last, chain 2, turn (22 HDC)
Row 9-14: HDC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (22 HDC)
Row 15: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 18, HDC decrease, chain 2, turn (20 HDC)
Row 16: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 16, HDC decrease, chain 2, turn (18 HDC)
Row 17: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 14, HDC decrease, chain 2, turn (16 HDC)
Row 18: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 12, HDC decrease, chain 2, turn (14 HDC)
Row 19: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 10, HDC decrease, chain 2, turn (12 HDC)
Row 20: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 8, HDC decrease, chain 2, turn (10 HDC)
Row 21: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 6, HDC decrease, chain 2, turn (8 HDC)
Row 22: HDC Decrease, HDC in next 4, HDC decrease, chain 2, continue to HDC around the edge (6 HDC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Hold the two pieces together and slip stitch the edges together working only in the back loops.
Don’t even worry about weave in the ends from your first piece! They will be on the inside of the pillow! Stuff generously with polyfil before closing!
Happy Earth Day!
